The Hunt for a Big Game Weapon

Searching for that North American Big Game Rifle is harder than I would have expected. At first, I thought it's the caliber that needs to be chosen and that's all, but after reading numerous reviews on which rifles are very good and which rifles should be avoided, I'm losing my mind over this! I've broken down a list of rifles of interest that contained over 20 models. I now have 3, but the smaller the number gets, the harder it is to choose. Some of the rifles on my list are more expensive than others, but they are guaranteed a life-long rifle. The others are cheaper - some suprisingly cheap - and they promise dead-on accuracy. The pricier ones, mind you, also have that extra "touch" of style which probably adds about $50 - 60 to the model. The cheaper guns are more plain looking, but deliver the same performance. As I am a sucker for good-looking equipment, this debate on rifles only gets tougher. But I promised myself that my rifle will be chosen wisely, therfore I will buy the gun that best suits me, and not just buy it for its looks.

My list, as of now, is as follows:
1) Remington Model 700
2) Savage Model 110GXP3
3) Browning X-Bolt Hunter

Hey Phil, I own the model 700 and you can't go wrong with it. its super acurate and has never failed me and plus it has been a popular rifle for many years so i think you should go with that one. the savage is a good choice too, but i would avoide the browning if i were u because its alot more expensiv then the savage or remington. you can save money and still get an awesome rifle!

post a blog when you make your final decision.

peace!

cool to know that you're thinking of the 700. i own teh savage model 110 and a remington 700 and they are both good but if you are saving money or looking for the cheaper gun then go with the savage cause it is prety now and a very good gun.

well like other said, they are both good guns. One who owns the savage will say its a spectacular gun, and one who owns the 700 will also say it is an excellent gun. Try those two out and see which one feels better for u. I also noticed that you considered the browning X-bolt; don't bother because it'll cost ya about 900.00+ in CAD. Not worth it, and it's not even that much different than the other two.

Hmm, I think your best choice is the Remington 700 only because I've used it for so many years, and still use it today. The savage is cheaper, and I heard they are good also. I'm sure your choice will work out well!

Thanks for the comments guys. As of now, I still haven't purchased one, but I'm most likely going to buy the Remington 700 when it is time for me to get a rifle. It won't be for a while, so I figured I should just save up and buy the 700 since I've got time to do so. The savage was my second choice, and may still be purchased if I decide on saving some cash. The X-Bolt is now out of the question, so it comes down to the Remington Model 700, or the Savage Model 110.

Again, thank you guys for the advice.
